"Chinese Culture Days": University members report on the diverse connections of the University of Paderborn to China

On Friday, September 27, as part of the "Chinese Culture Days" in Paderborn, those interested were able to gain an insight into the university's diverse connections to China. A total of six lectures reported on the sometimes very close and long-term cooperation with various Chinese partner universities. In addition to the numerous offers for Chinese students - e.g. a summer school for electrical engineering students, mentoring and preparatory courses at the Chinese-German Technical Faculty (CDTF), German courses and cooperation in the area of training German teachers in German studies, as well as new opportunities within the framework of the Chinese-German Campus (CDC ), to start a materials science degree at the University of Paderborn - various possibilities for students of the University of Paderborn to integrate a stay in China into their studies were presented.

Students in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering and chemical engineering can, for example, choose the "mb-cn" major and within this framework u. spend a semester abroad in China or attend a summer school. Two students from the Faculty of Economics with a focus on "Asian Studies in Business and Economics" (ASBE) also reported on their experiences during their semester abroad in Shanghai and Beijing. China is also playing an increasingly important role in research for scientists at the university The last lecture, for example, impressively presented how strongly China is currently reflecting on its cultural heritage and is, for example, founding new museums and also intensifying research in this area.

The lectures were framed by musical performances by Le Wang on the guzheng, a traditional Chinese stringed instrument, and by some delicacies from Chinese cuisine. The event was organized by Prof. Dr. Torsten Meier, Vice President for International Relations, and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Bremser, German director of the Confucius Institute Paderborn.
